Usage:
Parts Manual For Certain Caterpillar Products
Several months ago a new Parts Manual format was introduced for certain Caterpillar products. There has been some misunderstanding as to how the groups are arranged within the system "Masthead". The example, "Masthead" (Steering System) (1) is identified in the three illustrations. All groups (2) included in a system "Masthead" are alphabetically organized by group part name for easier reference.
NOTE: If the group part names are the same, the corresponding modifier will be alphabetized. When the group name (2) and modifier (3) are the same, groups will be organized in part number (4) ascending order in the "Masthead".
(1) This is the "Masthead" of a system within the manual. (2) The groups are listed in alphabetical order. (3) The modifiers are listed in alphabetical order (if applicable). (4) The part numbers are listed in ascending order (if applicable).
NOTE: Another feature to be aware of is that certain group numbers can be included several times in the parts manual denoting serial number breaks.
Not all current Parts Manuals are organized in this way, and identification of the method of organization for a particular machine is not immediate. The information provided in this article will assist Part Manual usage for those machines to which the information applies.
