3116 Truck Engines
Reference: CAT REMAN Information Release Memo, REM92-01, January 13, 1992.
Changes have been made in truck and engine configurations. These changes require different parts when installing later 3116 Truck Engines in earlier General Motors Trucks.
The trucks with 7SF Engines (1990 model year) had a single air transfer tube from the aftercooler to the inlet manifold. The earlier 2BK Engines (1991 model year) use a double (tuned) pipe system. On later 2BK Engines (1992 and above model years) the intake manifold connector was changed to wrap back over the valve cover. This requires a different tuned pipe from the aftercooler to the inlet manifold. There are differences in this tuned pipe between trucks with 800 square inch radiators and 900 square inch radiators. Other parts are the same as for installation of 1991 model engines. See the Reference.
The 1992 and later model year changes were phased in by engine arrangement. They span the serial number range from 2BK21037 to about 2BK25000. The best reference is the inlet manifold connection.
