New Valve Cover Gasket Used {1107}

Usage:


All Caterpillar Machines Powered By 3116 Engines;
3116 Industrial, Marine, and Generator Set Engines;
3116 Truck Engines

Description of Change: A new valve cover gasket is used. The new gasket is made from a cork and rubber material. The former gasket was made from a steel core material with gasket material bonded to both sides.

Adaptable To: The new 105-1542 Valve Cover Gasket is a direct replacement for the former 9Y-8103 Valve Cover Gasket in all 3116 engine applications. The former gasket is canceled.

Before installing a new valve cover gasket, thoroughly clean the gasket surfaces of the valve cover and inlet manifold. Use 5H-2471 Cement or 8T-9021 Adhesive to hold the new gasket in place in the valve cover.


Valve Cover Bolt Tightening Sequence

Tighten the valve cover bolts in sequence shown in the illustration to a torque of 12 ± 3 (9 ± 2 lb ft).
