Description of Change: Prior to January 1986, all Twin Disc® rear power takeoff clutches used on Caterpillar industrial engines used asbestos clutch drive plates. As of January 1986, the entire clutch plate was made from an asbestos-free material. However, it has been determined that the clutch plates made from the asbestos-free material could create excessive wear on the teeth of the drive plate and the inside diameter of the drive ring. These plates can be identified by three small notches located 120° apart on the inside diameter. The new clutch plates are still made with the same asbestos-free material, except the drive teeth are made of a different composite material to reduce tooth wear. Three new clutch plates are used according to the size and configuration of the clutch.
