WAF640-1950 Marine Transmissions So Equipped
It is important to maintain the correct air pressure for the 9Y0887 Control Valve (Reintjes® pneumatic selector valve) used in the Reintjes models WAF640-1950 Marine Transmissions. This will ensure that the transmission shifts smoothly between "AHEAD", "NEUTRAL", and "ASTERN". The correct air pressure required to perform this function is 772 ± 255 kPa (112 ± 37 psi). In the illustration, port (X) is for the air pressure for the "AHEAD" clutch engagement. Port (Y) is for the air supply to engage the "ASTERN" clutch. The air pressure entering port (Z) is used to center the valve. Therefore, port (Z) MUST have a constant pressure EQUAL to either port (X) or (Y) (whichever port is activated). If the air pressure at port (Z) is not equal to the air pressure at ports (X) or (Y), the transmission will not shift out of gear. However, if the pressure at port (Z) is too high, the clutches may not fully engage.
Location of ports (X) (ASTERN), (Y) (AHEAD), and (Z) (constant air supply required) on the Reintjes pneumatic selector control valve.
