Special Instruction, SEHS9234, "Installation of Auxiliary Oil Filter Groups for 3500 Family of Spark-Ignited Standard Engines."
Auxiliary oil filter groups are used for the spark-ignited engines listed. The filter groups will provide increased oil capacity and extend oil service life to a maximum of 750 hours. See the chart for the correct group part number for the appropriate engine.
Although the auxiliary oil filter group is being shipped with a full complement of 4P3631 Filter Elements, this group is being used primarily to provide additional sump capacity. The customer may, at his option, replace the filter elements according to the lubrication and maintenance guidelines, or discontinue using the 4P3631 Filter Elements altogether.
NOTE: See the References for the correct installation procedures. If the 4P3631 Filter Elements are removed, be sure that all retaining hardware is secured or removed. It is recommended that the oil and filter change interval of 750 hours not be exceeded.
This change is effective with 3406 (1RK1, 4FD187), 3512 (4KC156), and 3516 (3RC198) Engines. This change is adaptable to 3406 (4FD188, 190, 192, 194, and 197) Engines, and to first production for the 3512 and 3516 Standard (Stoichiometric) Engines. This change will be incorporated with the next build for 3508 Spark-Ignited Standard Engines.
