New Tube Assembly for the Low-Pressure Fuel System on Certain C6.6 Machine Engines{1274}

Introduction

There have been isolated instances of issues with 322-9530 Tube , 338-1398 Tube , and 311-1722 Tube that are installed on certain C6.6 engines.

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Ensure that all adjustments and repairs that are carried out to the fuel system are performed by authorized personnel that have the correct training. Before beginning ANY work on the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, General Hazard Information and High Pressure Fuel Lines for safety information. Refer to System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, Cleanliness of Fuel System Components for detailed information on the standards of cleanliness that must be observed during ALL work on the fuel system.


  1. Remove the primary fuel filter and bracket. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Priming Pump - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  1. Remove 319-7347 Fuel Line , 311-1331 Fuel Tube and 338-1398 Tube from the secondary fuel filter base.

  1. Remove the existing secondary fuel filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Remove and Install (Secondary Fuel Filter)" for the correct procedure. Discard the fuel filter base. Retain the two 6I-0593 Bolts .

  1. Remove top portion of 311-1737 Bracket As .

  1. Remove bottom portion of 322-9531 Bracket . Discard the bracket. Retain the three 6I-0260 Bolts .

  1. Remove fuel injection line (4). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Lines - Remove". Retain the three mounting clips and fasteners.

  1. Disconnect tube assembly (3) from fuel injection pump (1) .

  1. Remove fuel inlet adaptor (2) from fuel injection pump (1). Discard fuel inlet adaptor (2) .

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

  1. Install 356-4028 Adaptor (2) into the inlet port of the fuel injection pump. Tighten the adaptor (2) to a torque of 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  1. Install new 353-3571 Fuel Line (1) by inserting into the adaptor (2) in the fuel injection pump. Orientate the pipe such that the fourth leg at position (X) is vertical. Refer to illustration 2. Tighten the nut finger tight.

  1. Install three 6I-0260 Bolts (4) to 354-5556 Bracket As (3). Install 354-5556 Bracket As (3) to the cover of the inlet manifold. Tighten the bolts (4) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  1. Secure clip (5) to bracket (3). Install 100-4458 Bolt (6) to the clip (5). Tighten the bolt (6) finger tight.

  1. Remove the existing stud at position (Y). Install longer 6I-0364 Stud to top filter 311-1737 Bracket As at position (Y). Refer to illustration 4. Tighten the stud to a torque of 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  1. Position 311-1737 Bracket As (7) to the lower bracket (3) after rotating the larger clip (9) of the 353-3571 Fuel Line clear of the longer stud.

  1. Install the two 6I-0593 Bolts to the 311-1737 Bracket As (7). Tighten the nuts (8) to a torque of 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

  1. Install 353-3588 Filter to 311-1737 Bracket As (7). Install two 6I-0593 Bolts (12) to 353-3588 Filter .

  1. Install end of 353-3571 Fuel Line (1) into compression adaptor of the secondary fuel filter base (11). Rotate clip (9) so that the clip can be installed over the stud. Loosely install 6I-0594 Nut (10) to retain clip (9) .

  1. If necessary, use slotted holes in the secondary fuel filter base (11) to achieve optimum position. Tighten the two bolts (12) to a torque of 44 N·m (32 lb ft).

  1. Ensure that 353-3571 Fuel Line (1) is still in the correct position. Tighten the compression nut to a torque of 27 N·m (20 lb ft). Tighten 6I-0594 Nut (10) to a torque of 44 N·m (32 lb ft). Tighten the bolt (6) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  1. Install a new fuel injection line to the fuel injection pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Lines - Install"

  1. Install the primary fuel filter and bracket. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Priming Pump - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

  1. Install all tube assemblies to the engine.

  1. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the correct procedure.

  1. Start the engine. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure. Check the fuel system for leaks.
