Note: Avoid the loosening or the tightening of the turbocharger clamps whenever possible.
Note: Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Compressor housing must go straight on the turbocharger assembly without tilting. Tilting may cause compressor blade to tip, or the compressor shaft can be damaged.
In order to install the turbocharger clamps in the correct way refer to the following procedure.
- Position compressor housing (2) and turbine housing (6) on turbocharger cartridge (4) while in the vertical position. Refer to Illustration 1.
Note: Ensure that the mating surfaces are flush.
- Tighten the nut on V-band clamp (5) to a torque of 18 ± 1.6 N·m (159 ± 14 lb in).
- Loosen the nut on V-band clamp (5) one to two full turns.
- Tighten the nut on V-band clamp (5) to a torque of 13.6 N·m (120 lb in).
- Tighten the nut on V-band clamp (3) to a torque of 13.6 N·m (120 lb in).
- Tighten the nuts again to a torque of 13.6 N·m (120 lb in).
- Ensure that the impeller spins freely.
- Connect hose (1) to the compressor housing.
- Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, ""Turbocharger - Install"".
