Air Compressor on Certain C6.6 Machine Engines{1803, 7555} Caterpillar

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

There have been a number of isolated instances of issues with the compressor on certain C6.6 machine engines. The 198-8263 O-Ring Seal is not sealing properly.

Solution

Ensure that the mating faces of the compressor and cover are clean and free from wear and damage.

Apply a continuous circular 3 mm (0.118 inch) bead of 6V-6640 Sealant to the mating face (1) of the cover at position (X) .

Install the cover (1) to the compressor (2). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Note: The installation of the cover to the compressor must occur within 10 minutes of applying the 6V-6640 Sealant .
