Description of Change: A new lock washer is used on the crankcase covers of large Off-Highway Trucks. The new lock washer is a two-piece lock washer. The two pieces are retained in correct orientation by adhesive. The separated halves of the lock washers can be used as a set without adhesive. The correct orientation of the washer is essential in order for the washer to function correctly. The surface with the small serrations is the outer surface. The surface with the larger serrations is the inner surface. Refer to Illustrations 3 and 4.
Adaptable To: The current 5M-2984 Washer is replaced by the 338-9390 Lockwasher.

Note: Use a standard torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft) for the 9X-8872 Locking Bolts that fasten the crankcase covers to the cylinder block.

The new lock washer is adaptable to the machines that are listed above. Serial number effectivity is listed in Table 1.
