The Pipe Assembly in the Kickout and Positioner Group on Certain Backhoe Loaders May Be Too Long{5109, 5112}

Usage:

430E EAT
Backhoe Loader:
416E (S/N: SHA1-UP)
420E (S/N: PRA1-UP; HLS1-UP)
430E (S/N: RLN1-UP; EAT1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The 297-2831 Pipe As may be too long on the Backhoe Loaders that are listed above. This causes the 272-0557 Plate As to hit the 3B-8489 Grease Fitting that is on the bottom of the lift arm under the right hand side of the A-pin. This problem can occasionally cause the 9R-3255 Lever to break, when the pivot plate travels past the pointer for the kickout.

The pivot plate may travel past the pointer during the following operation: fully raising the lift arms, fully tilting back the bucket and stalling the steering.

Solution

The 297-2831 Pipe As in the parts distribution system has been replaced with a pipe assembly of the correct length. Follow the procedure below in order to replace the pipe assembly.

Replacement Procedure For the New Pipe Assembly

(5) Pipe assembly

  1. Park the machine on a flat and a level surface.

  1. Lower the loader bucket until the loader bucket is flat on the ground.

  1. Rotate the loader bucket to the full TILT BACK position. Raise the lift arms until the bucket starts the DUMP position.

  1. Measure the angle of the cutting edge relative to the ground. The angle should be 55 ± 2 degrees.

  1. If the angle is not within tolerance, adjust the length of rod assembly (10). Loosen locknut (11). Increasing the length of the rod increases the bucket angle and decreasing the length of the rod decreases the bucket angle. Approximately one complete turn on rod assembly is equal to four degrees of change in bucket angle. When adjustment is complete, tighten locknut (11) to 22 to 24 N·m (16 to 18 lb ft).

  1. Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 in order to recheck the angle after adjusting the rod assembly.

  1. Place the loader bucket flat on the ground.

  1. Loosen screws (7). Position the wheel on return-to-dig switch (6) on the ramp of the guide (8) at a point so that the switch will barely contact the ramp. Lightly tighten screws (7) .

  1. As required, lower bracket assembly (9) until the return-to-dig function is actuated from the cab in order to return the loader bucket to the level position. Tighten screws (7) .
