Tightening sequence

Tighten the bolts in the numerical sequence that is shown in illustration 1 to the following torque. ... 22 N·m (16 lb ft)

Removal Procedure

1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Drain" for the correct filling and draining procedure.

2. Disconnect the hose from water pump (3) . Remove bolts (4) . The bolts are different lengths. Note the positions of the different bolts.

   Note: Do not remove bolts (7) at this time.

3. Remove water pump (3) from front cover (1) . Remove gasket (2) .

4. If necessary, remove bolts (7) , bolts (6) , and gasket (5) from water pump (3) .

Typical Example

1. If necessary, install gasket (5) , cover (6) , and bolts (7) to water pump (3) . Install bolts (7) to cover (6) . Tighten the bolts finger tight at this time.

2. Clean the mating surface of front cover (1) .

3. Install Tooling (A) .

4. Use Tooling (A) in order to install new gasket (2) to the front cover.

5. Align water pump (3) with Tooling (A) . Install water pump (3) to front cover (1) .

   Note: Ensure that the gear of water pump (5) and the gear of the fuel injection pump mesh.

6. Install bolts (4) . Refer to Illustration 3. Tighten bolts (4) finger tight.

   Note: Ensure that bolts of different lengths are installed in the correct positions.

7. Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining bolts (4) finger tight.

8. Tighten bolts (4) and bolts (7) to a torque of 22 N·m (16 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 5.

9. Install the hose to the water pump (3) .

10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the proper filling procedure.
