Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install

Usage:

R2900G JLK

Installation Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement. Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed. Connect the steering frame lock between the front and rear frames before working on the machine.

Before operating the machine, place the steering frame lock in the stored position.

Failure to place the steering frame lock into the stored position before operating can result in loss of steering.

------ WARNING! ------

Failure to follow the instruction below for the installation of the steering frame lock pin may result in personal injury. Special care must be taken if more than one person is installing the steering frame lock pin.

Confirm the verbal communication and the hand signals that will be used during the installation.

Be alert for the sudden movement of the machine frames or the steering frame lock pin.

Do not insert fingers into the steering frame lock bores when the bores are being aligned.

Do not stand on the machine or within one meter of the machine while the steering control is moved in order to allow the steering frame lock pin to move into the fully installed position.

Install the steering frame lock when the machine is being lifted and when the machine is being transported. Also install the steering frame lock if you are performing service work near the articulating hitch.

The steering frame lock is located at the articulating hitch in the center of the machine.

  1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface. Park the machine in the straight ahead position and engage the parking brake.

  2. Stop the engine.

  3. Check that the steering frame lock bores in the front frame and the rear frame are aligned.

Personal injury can result from machine articulation or movement.

Ensure that the steering frame lock pin is installed through the machine frame bore before moving the steering control.

  7. If steering frame lock pin (1) is only partially installed in front frame (2) or pin bevel (3) stops steering frame lock pin (1) from entering front frame (2), perform Step 8 through Step 14.

  8. Remove steering frame lock pin (1) and place in the stored position.

  9. Start the engine.

  10. Disengage the parking brake.

  11. Realign the steering frame lock bores in the front frame and the rear frame.

  12. Engage the parking brake.

  13. Stop the engine.

  14. Place steering frame lock pin (1) in the installed position and ensure steering frame lock pin (1) passes through the three bores.

  15. If steering frame lock pin (1) passes through the bore in front frame (2) or further and cannot be removed to realign the pin bores, perform Step 16 through Step 21.

  16. Remove all personnel apart from the operator from within 1.0 m (3.28 ft) of the machine.

  17. Start the engine.

  18. Disengage the parking brake.

  19. Slowly move the steering control in one direction and then in the opposite direction, until steering frame lock pin (1) moves through the three frame bores.
