Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Install

Note: Ensure that the mating surfaces of the oscillating axle assembly and the rear frame are clean prior to the installation of the oscillating axle assembly.

  1. Open the rear fenders. Secure the left side fender to the operator station.

  2. Position the rear axle assembly under the rear frame.

    Note: When raising the rear axle assembly to the rear frame, ensure that the dowels and the bolt holes in the trunnion supports align with the holes in the mounts of the rear frame.

  3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the rear axle assembly. The weight of the rear axle assembly is approximately 3400 kg (7500 lb). Raise the rear axle assembly to the rear frame.

  4. Install the six bolts and nuts (11) to the rear trunnion support.

  5. Install the four bolts and nuts (10) to the front trunnion support.

  6. Tighten nuts (10) and nuts (11) to a torque of 1125 ± 100 N·m (830 ± 73 lb ft).

  7. Lower the rear fenders.

  8. Connect hose assembly (9) and install the cable ties to the hose assemblies.

  9. Connect hose assemblies (7) and (8).

  10. Connect hose assemblies (4), (5) and (6).

  11. Connect hose assembly (2) to the rear trunnion support.

  12. Connect hose assembly (3) to the front trunnion support.

  13. Connect hose assembly (1).

  14. Lubricate the rear axle trunnion bearings. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Rear Axle Trunnion Bearings - Lubricate".

  15. Fill the rear differential and final drive assemblies. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (With Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (Without Axle Oil Cooler) - Change".

  16. Purge the air from the braking system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Braking System Air - Purge".

  17. Check the oil level of the hydraulic tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".

End By:

  1. Install the rear drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly And Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Rear) - Remove and Install".

  2. Install the torque converter bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly And Assembly, "Bottom Guard (Torque Converter) - Remove and Install".

  3. Install the transmission bottom guard. Refer to Disassembly And Assembly, "Bottom Guard (Transmission) - Remove and Install".

  4. Install the rear tire and rim assemblies. Refer to Disassembly And Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Install".

  5. Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly And Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
