Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the water spray system. |
Note: The following steps must be performed before this procedure is conducted.
- Place the machine on a smooth, horizontal surface.
- Place the propulsion control lever in the NEUTRAL position.
- Ensure that the machine cannot move. Block the drums with appropriate devices. If the machine is equipped with wheels, the wheels should be blocked. The machine could also be placed against a loading dock or another object which cannot move, in order to prevent movement.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Stop the engine.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure. Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury. Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

- A temporary water circuit will need to be built. Use 5P-0753 Tube and cut the tube with the 1U-7648 Tube Cutter. Cut the tube to various lengths, as needed. Use the 5P-4402 Air Brake Connector to connect the tube to all the components in the test. Do the following steps in order to build the temporary water circuit.
- Cut the tube. The tube will supply the water from the water bottle (6) to the pump (7). Connect the tube to the inlet side of the pump (7) .
- Cut a tube. The tube will supply the water from the outlet for the pump (7) to the inlet for the flow meter (3) .
- Cut a tube. The tube will supply the water from the outlet for the flow meter (3) to the gauge.
- Cut a tube. The tube will supply the water from valve (5) to the water bottle (6) .
- Reconnect the electrical connector to the pump (7) .
- Turn on the water spray system.
- Use the valve (5) to regulate the flow and the pressure of the water from the pump (7) .
- Record the various readings of water flow and the pressures. Compare the results with the following table.
