Problem:
The engine oil cooler may develop oil leaks at the O-ring seal or at the gasket joint that is between the cooler and the engine block. The passages in the engine block for the oil cooler connection may be bored 2.4 mm (0.09 in) off center. When the O-ring is installed at an off center passage, the joint experiences uneven loading. Oil leaks will develop if the bolts near the joint relax their torque.
Solution:
Inspect the joints between the 106-8262 Engine Oil Cooler and the engine block for possible oil leaks. Tightening the bolts at the joint will correct the leaks in most cases. If the leaks persist, omit the 095-1525 O-rings and reuse only the 107-2169 Gasket. Then, install the bolts and tighten to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (21 ± 5 lb ft).
An AFTER FAILURE Service Letter is being developed the address the field population. The Service Letter will address the solution by replacing the former gasket and the O-rings with a new beaded gasket.
