Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance, or repair of this product can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.
Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance, or repair on this product until you have read and understood the operation, lubrication, maintenance, and repair information.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this manual and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.
The hazards are identified by the Safety Alert Symbol and followed by a Signal Word such as "DANGER","WARNING", or "CAUTION". The Safety Alert "WARNING" label is shown below.
A non-exhaustive list of operations that may cause product damage are identified by "NOTICE" labels on the product and in this publication.

The 420-2048 Adjustable C-Frame Assembly is a C-Style lifting device. The tool is used to remove and install various pumps and motors, final drives, and other wide variety of components. It is used with a suitable hoist or lifting device and is adjustable in horizontal and vertical directions.
The following features provide maximum versatility:
- Vertical tube adjusts to different lengths. Two bolts, with nuts and washers lock the tube at the desired vertical position.
- Vertical adjustments are made manually by detaching nuts and bolts, sliding inner tube to desired location, and tightening the bolts and nuts.
- Top and bottom horizontal tubes are adjustable in horizontal directions.
- Horizontal adjustments are made using a 7/8" wrench.
- Internal ACME threaded rods in both of the horizontal tubes adjust extension arms to achieve center of gravity, even under a load.

The dimensions shown in the Tool Specifications table are for the vertical length and the horizontal width. The outer-most tubing near the center of the contracted tool (two small spacers that host the bolt and nut for the outer vertical tubing) has a diameter of 69.85 mm (2.75 in).
Note: For more information on setting the extension arms length, refer to the specific Disassembly and Assembly service manual for the component to be lifted.

Due to the shape and weight of the tool, use a suitable lifting device or get help when lifting the C-frame assembly. |
- Identify the load and weight of the machine component to be lifted. Do not exceed the Working Load Limit (WLL).

- Make sure that the lifting eyebolt is fully inserted. Tighten to standard torque.
- After achieving desired length, make sure that bolts are fully inserted and tightened with nuts to standard torque.
- Identify and measure the desired vertical length of the tooling required for the operation and adjust the inner vertical tube at the desired settings before loading the tool onto a suitable hoist or lifting device.
Note: The Working Load Limit (WLL) of the tooling changes as the vertical length of the tooling changes.
Note: The bolts and nuts used to keep the vertical tubes at the desired lengths should be tightened to standard torque before proceeding to the next step.
Note: This step requires the tool to be laying flat on the surface or ground.

- Attach a suitable hoist or lifting device to the upper eyebolt assembly (2) .
Note: The Working Load Limit (WLL) of the hoist or lifting device used for this step should be more than the weight of the machine component being lifted and the tooling used to lift it.

- Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly service manual for the machine component to be lifted.
- Turn the hex nuts (5) with a 22.22 mm (7/8 in) hand wrench until the desired horizontal location is achieved.
Note: The Working Load Limit (WLL) of the tooling changes as the horizontal length of the tooling changes.
Note: Avoid getting trapped between tooling and the machine component. Stay a safe distance away from the tooling and the machine component during the installation and removal of the machine component.
Note: Operate the wrench by hand only, and when the tool is in a stable condition.

- Inspect all welds and check for damaged, cracked, or bent components. Inspect tooling prior to each use. If damage is found, destroy the tool and dispose of as scrap. Replace damaged tool with new product.
- Do not use unless the Working Load Limit (WLL) identification markings are legible.
- Do not use if lifting holes in vertical tubes are elongated.
- Do not use if hardware is damaged or missing.
- Have the tools inspected annually by an approved dealership inspector.
Maintenance
- Periodically lubricate the threaded rod using an appropriate lubricant.
- Periodically inspect the threaded holes in the horizontal tube extension arms. If threads are damaged, destroy the tool, dispose of as scrap, and replace with new product.
Cleaning
- Clean the tooling with a non-solvent based cleaner.
Storage
- Store the tooling in a clean, dry location to prevent rust or corrosion. Tooling can be damaged by moisture or high humidity.
- Internal threads can also be damaged by moisture or high humidity. Store the tool indoors in a clean, dry location with the extension arms retracted.
- The tool should be stored in the most stable position. Store the tool laying flat or hanging from appropriate hooks to prevent falling.
Tool Disposal
- At the end of the operational life of the tool, destroy the tool and dispose of as scrap.
