Fuel Filter - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Open the engine hood.

  1. Turn OFF the valve assembly (1) .

  1. The fuel valve is located on the bottom of the fuel tank.

  1. Remove two lines (2) and (3) from the fuel filter.

  1. Remove tubes (4) and (5) from the left hand side of the fuel filter.

  1. Remove tubes (6) and (7) from the right hand side of the fuel filter.

  1. Remove two bolts (8) and nuts (9) from the bracket.

  1. Remove the fuel base and the fuel filter from the bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fuel base and the fuel filter to the bracket.

  1. Install two nuts (9) and two bolts (8) to the bracket.

  1. Install tubes (7) and (6) to the right hand side of the fuel filter.

  1. Install tubes (5) and (4) to the left hand side of the fuel filter.

  1. Install two lines (3) and (2) to the fuel filter.

  1. Turn ON the valve assembly (1) .

  1. The fuel valve is located on the bottom of the fuel tank.

  1. Close the engine hood.

End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
