The 816F Landfill Compactor is equipped with two transmission speeds. The test procedure for the 816F varies from the test procedure for the 814F Wheel Tractor and the 815F Soil Compactor.
Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing the parking brake. If the machine begins to move during the test, reduce the engine speed immediately and apply the service brakes. |
Test the parking brake on a dry, level surface.
Check the area around the machine. Make sure that the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.
Test Procedure for the 814F and the 815F
- Make sure that the steering frame lock is in the STORED position.
- Fasten the seat belt before you test the parking brake.
- Start the engine. Raise the work tool slightly.
- Engage the parking brake. Move the gear speed selector to the THIRD SPEED position. Move the transmission direction control lever to the FORWARD position.
Note: The following step will produce a Warning Category 3. The parking brake indicator will turn ON and the master action light will flash. The action alarm will sound.
- Gradually increase the engine speed to 1600 rpm. Do not exceed 1600 rpm.
- With the parking brake engaged, the machine in third speed, and the engine at 1600 rpm, the machine should not move.
- Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Switch the transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position.
- Lower the work tool to the ground. Stop the engine.
- If the machine was able to move during the testing of the parking brake, inspect the brake components for proper adjustment, wear, or damage. Service the parking brake before you return the machine to operation.
Reference: For additional information on the adjustment of the parking brake components, refer to the Service Manual Modules Testing and Adjusting, "Parking Brake Control Cable - Adjust" or Testing and Adjusting, "Parking Brake Actuator - Adjust".
- Perform this test again after servicing the parking brake.
Test Procedure for the 816F
- Follow the 814F test procedures in Step 1 to Step 3.
- Engage the parking brake. Move the gear speed selector to the SECOND SPEED position. Move the transmission direction control lever to the FORWARD position.
Note: The following step will produce a Warning Category 3. The parking brake indicator will turn ON and the master action light will flash. The action alarm will sound.
- Gradually increase the engine speed to 1400 rpm. Do not exceed 1400 rpm.
- With the parking brake engaged, the machine in second speed, and the engine at 1400 rpm, the machine should not move.
