Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove fuel filter (5) from the fuel filter base, as follows:
- Remove the collar and cap (1) from the top of fuel filter base (2). This will help prevent spillage of fuel from the fuel filter.
- Hold fuel filter (5) while locking collar (4) is turned in the counterclockwise direction.
- Pull fuel filter (5) from fuel filter base (2) and remove locking collar (4) .

- Disconnect fuel line (3) from fuel filter base (2). Plug all openings or cap all openings immediately in order to help prevent contamination.
- Remove two bolts (6) that fasten fuel filter base (2) to the mounting bracket.

Note: Some engines may have a hand priming pump on the fuel filter base. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Filter Base - Disassemble" topic for information on removing the hand priming pump.
