Start By:

  1. Tilt the cab. See Operation and Maintenance, "Cab - Tilt" .

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from driveline torque windup under load.

Unequal wheel speed can result in driveline torque windup which can cause driveline components to be under load during disassembly.

Relieve the driveline torque windup before disassembly.

Note: Use Tooling (A) in order to raise the front axle until the wheels clear the ground. This will release the driveline torque windup in the front axle.

  1. Remove four bolts (1) from front universal joint (2) of main drive shaft (3) .

  1. Remove four bolts (5) from rear universal joint (4) of main drive shaft (3) .

  1. Remove the main drive shaft. The weight of the main drive shaft is 13 kg (29 lb) .

  1. Lower the cab. See Operation and Maintenance, "Cab - Tilt" .

Installation Procedure

Start By:

  1. Tilt the cab. See Operation and Maintenance, "Cab - Tilt" .

  1. Install four bolts (5) to rear universal joint (4) of main drive shaft (3) in order to connect to the torque converter. Torque bolts (5) to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft) .

  1. Install four bolts (1) to front universal joint (2) of main drive shaft (3) in order to connect to the transmission. Torque bolts (1) to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft) .

  1. Lower the cab. See Operation and Maintenance, "Cab - Tilt" .
