D250E Series II and D300E Series II Articulated Trucks Power Train Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the center universal joint. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Universal Joint (Center) - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
2. Remove the rear axle housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rear Axle Housing - Remove". The information is in this manual.
3. Remove the center axle stabilizer rod. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9129, "Center Axle Stabilizer Rod - Remove and Install" .

1. Drain the oil from the center axle housing. The capacity of the axle housing is 9 L (2.5 US gal) .

2. Disconnect hydraulic brake hose (1) from the brake line that is on center axle housing (2) .

3. Disconnect breather hose (3) from center axle housing (2) . Disconnect hydraulic hose (6) from the differential. Remove bolt (5) , the washer and hose clamp (4) that secures hydraulic hose (6) to the differential.

4. Position an appropriate floor jack under the shaft yoke that is on axle housing (2) .

5. Remove four bolts (9) and the washers that secure bracket (10) and axle housing (2) to the center suspension frame. Remove bracket (10) from the axle housing.

6. Remove four bolts (7) and the washers that secure bracket (8) to axle housing (2) .

7. Remove four bolts (11) and the washers that secure bracket (12) to axle housing (2) . Remove four bolts (13) and the washers that secure axle housing (2) to the center suspension frame.

8. Attach Tooling (A) to each side of center suspension frame (14) .

9. Use Tooling (B) and (C) in order to raise dump body (15) off the center axle housing.

10. Use the floor jack in order to lower the shaft yoke that is on axle housing (2) .

11. Rotate the wheels in order to remove axle housing (2) from the machine. Place Tooling (D) under dump body (15) . Lower the dump body to Tooling (D) . The hoist and Tooling (B) and (C) can be removed now.
