  1. Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  1. Attach Tooling (B) and (C) to dump body (15) , as shown.

  1. Rotate the wheels in order to install axle housing (2) to the machine. Use the hoist in order to raise the dump body off Tooling (D) . Remove Tooling (D) from underneath dump body (15) . Continue positioning axle housing (2) to the machine.

  1. Position an appropriate floor jack under the shaft yoke that is on axle housing (2) . Use the floor jack in order to raise the shaft yoke to a level position.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and (C) in order to lower dump body (15) on the center axle housing.

  1. Install four bolts (11) and the washers that secure bracket (12) to axle housing (2) . Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (199 ± 30 lb ft) .

  1. Install four bolts (13) and the washers that secure axle housing (2) to the center suspension frame. Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (664 ± 74 lb ft) .

  1. Install four bolts (7) and the washers that secure bracket (8) to axle housing (2) . Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (199 ± 30 lb ft) .

  1. Position bracket (10) to the axle housing. Install four bolts (9) and the washers that secure bracket (10) and axle housing (2) to the center suspension frame. Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (664 ± 74 lb ft) .

  1. Remove Tooling (A) from each side of center suspension frame (14) .

  1. Remove Tooling (B) and (C) from dump body (15) .

  1. Connect breather hose (3) to center axle housing (2) . Connect hydraulic hose (6) to the differential. Install bolt (5) , the washer and hose clamp (4) that secures hydraulic hose (6) to the differential.

  1. Connect hydraulic brake hose (1) to the brake line that is on center axle housing (2) .

  1. Fill the axle housing with fluid to the proper level. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7028 for the correct procedure.

End By:

  1. Install the center axle stabilizer rod. Refer to Disassembly and AssemblySENR9129, "Center Axle Stabilizer Rod - Remove and Install" .
  2. Install the rear axle housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rear Axle Housing - Install". The information is in this manual.
  3. Install the center universal joint. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Universal Joint (Center) - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
