Turbocharger (if equipped) damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil gauge display verifies the oil pressure is sufficient. |

The ether starting aid switch (1) should be in the AUTO position during normal operation. When the starting motor is engaged and the temperatures of the engine coolant and of the oil are below
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) for the engine determines the need for the ether injection system. Five parameters determine the amount of ether that is injected and the duration of the injection.
- Size of the engine
- Engine coolant temperature
- Engine rpm
- Position of the engine start switch
- Position of ether starting aid switch (1)
NOTICE |
---|
Excessive ether (starting fluid) can cause piston and ring damage. Use ether for cold weather starting purposes only. |
Note: The ether starting aid should only be used in the MANUAL position for cold weather starting. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU5898, "Cold Weather Recommendations".
Ether Starting Aid Switch (1) - The ether starting aid switch (1) controls the use of the ether starting aid. |
If the engine does not start or if the engine runs rough, the ether can be manually injected. Leave the engine start switch in the ON position. Push the top half of ether starting aid switch (1). This causes the ether to be injected for an additional five seconds after the standard cycle has been completed.
Manual injections are only activated when the engine speed is below 1200 rpm and the engine coolant temperature is less than
