Start By:

  1. Remove the final drives.

  1. Install Tooling (A) on the planetary carrier. Fasten a hoist to Tooling (A) .

  1. The weight of the planetary carrier is 105 kg (231 lb). Remove bolts (3) that hold the planetary carrier to the hub. Remove planetary carrier (2) from the hub.

  1. Remove six bolts that hold three plates (1). Remove the O-ring seal from each of the plates.

  1. Use Tooling (B) and a press, and remove three shafts (4) from the planetary carrier.

  1. Remove gears (5) from the planetary carrier.

  1. Remove bearing cones (6) from each side of gears (5) .

  1. Use Tooling (C), and remove the bearing cups from each side of gears (5) .

    NOTICE

    There is a second sun gear that is shown in Step 15 in the center of the planetary carrier. The sun gear is free to fall if the gear stays with the planetary carrier.


  1. The weight of planetary carrier (8) and sun gear (7) is 46 kg (101 lb). Install Tooling (D) on planetary carrier (8), and attach a hoist.

    Remove the planetary carrier and sun gear (7) from the hub.

  1. Turn over the carrier and the sun gear, and remove spiral ring (9) from sun gear (7) .

  1. The weight of planetary carrier (8) is 32 kg (70 lb). Use a hoist, and remove planetary carrier (8) from sun gear (7) .

  1. Use a hammer and a punch. Drive roll pins (10) in the planetary gear shafts.

  1. Use a press, and remove the shafts. Remove the roll pins from the planetary gear shafts.

  1. Remove the three gears (11) .

  1. Remove bearings (12) from each side of the three gears (11) .

  1. Remove ring (13) and sun gear (14) from the hub.

  1. Remove the bolts and retainer (15). If ring (16) and retainer (15) need to be replaced, use Tooling (E) and a press, and remove ring (16) from retainer (15) .

  1. Use a magnet, and remove 15 pins (17) from the hub.

  1. The weight of hub (18) and ring gear (19) as a unit is 73 kg (161 lb). Install Tooling (F), and attach a hoist. Remove hub (18) and ring gear (19) as a unit. Remove Tooling (F) .

  1. Turn over the hub and the ring gear, and remove retainer ring (20) from the ring gear.

  1. Remove hub (18) from ring gear (19). The weight of hub (18) is 22 kg (48 lb).

  1. Install Tooling (G) on hub (22), as shown.


    NOTICE

    Do not lift the hub high enough to make contact with the fitting on the hydraulic cylinder which is part of Tooling (G) .


  1. Use Tooling (G), and loosen hub (22) from hub (23) .

  1. Remove Tooling (G). Remove bearing cone (21) from the hub.

  1. Install Tooling (H) on hub (22). The weight of hub (22) is 260 kg (573 lb).

  1. Attach a hoist to Tooling (H), and remove hub (22) from hub (23) .

  1. Turn over hub (22), and remove Duo-Cone seal (25). Remove bearing cup (26) with a hammer and a punch.

  1. Turn over the hub, and remove bearing cup (24) from the hub with a hammer and a punch.

    Note: In order to reuse the Duo-Cone seals, place identification marks on the seals.

  1. Remove Duo-Cone seal (27) from hub (23) .


    NOTICE

    Bearing cone (29) may become damaged if it is removed from hub (23) .


  1. If necessary, remove bearing cone (29) from hub (23) .

  1. Remove lip seal (28) from the hub.
