Final Drive - Assemble
Assembly Procedure

- Use Tooling (A), and install the lip seal in hub (1). Place clean oil on the lip of the seal.

- Heat bearing cone (2) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearing cone (2) on hub (1) .
- Use Tooling (B), and install the Duo-Cone seal on hub (1), as shown.

Note: Before any of the Duo-Cone seals are installed, see Disassembly And Assembly, "Duo-Cone Floating Seals - Installation Procedure" in this module.
- Lower the temperature of bearing cups (3), and install the bearing cups in hub (4) .

- Use Tooling (B), and install the Dou-Cone seal in hub (4) .
- Install Tooling (C), and attach a hoist. Place hub (4) in position on hub (1) .

- Heat bearing cone (6) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275 °F). Install bearing cone (6) on the hub.

- Place Tooling (D) in position on the bearing cone. Install retainer (5). Turn hub (4) while you are tightening the bolts that hold the retainer to a torque of 135 ± 15 N·m (100 ± 11 lb ft). Allow the bearing cone to return to room temperature before the retainer and Tooling (D) are removed. Remove the retainer and Tooling (D) .
- Place hub (7) in position in gear (9). Install retainer ring (8) .

- Turn over hub (7) and gear (9), and install Tooling (E). Attach a hoist to Tooling (E), and place the hub and gear (9) in position in hub (4) .

- Place 15 pins (10) in position in the hub. Hub (7) should be below the end of hub (1) .

- Use Tooling (A) and a press, and install ring (11) in retainer (5) .

- Place retainer (5) in position on the hub, and install the bolts.
- Use a thickness feeler gauge, and measure the distance between retainer (5) and pins (10). There must be a clearance of .08 ± .05 mm (0.003 ± 0.002 inch) between retainer (5) and pins (10) .

- Place the two bearings in position in each of the three gears (14) .

- Place gears (14) and the bearings in position in carrier (12) .
- Lower the temperature of shaft (13). Align hole (X) in shaft (13) with hole (X) in carrier (12). Use a press, and install shaft (13). Install the roll pin in hole (X) in order to retain shaft (13) .
- Use a hoist, and lower carrier (12) in position on sun gear (15) .

- Install spiral ring (16) .
- Install sun gear (17) and ring (18) .

- Install Tooling (F), and attach a hoist.

- Align the gears in planetary carrier (12) with gear (9), and sun gear (17). Lower the planetary carrier in the final drive. Be sure that sun gear (17) engages the planetary carrier gears. Be sure that ring (18) stays in the correct position.
- Lower the temperature of the two bearing cups, and install the bearing cups in gears (21) .

- Place the two bearing cones and gears (21) in position in carrier (19) .
- Lower the temperature of shafts (20), and use a press to install the shafts in carrier (19) .
- Turn over carrier (19). Measure the distance between the end of the shafts and the machined surface of the carrier. The distance must be .08 ± .05 mm (0.003 ± 0.002 inch).
- Install the O-ring seals on plates (22). Place plates (22) in position on the shafts, and install bolts (23) .

- Install Tooling (G) to planetary carrier (19), and attach a hoist.

- Install O-ring seals (24) and (25). Align the drain hole in the planetary carrier with the drain hole in the hub, as shown.
- Place planetary carrier (19) in position on the hub.
- Install the bolts that hold the planetary carrier to the hub. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 475 ± 50 N·m (350 ± 37 lb ft). Remove Tooling (G) .
End By: Install the final drives.
