CID 0590 FMI 12 Engine Electronic Control Module Failed - Test

Usage:

D350E II 2XW
This diagnostic code is recorded when the engine ECM reads a diagnostic code that is internal to the engine ECM.

The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:

  • The engine ECM is faulty. There are no serviceable parts within the ECM.

Note: Ensure that the CID 0590 FMI 12 for the relay is active.

As a result of this diagnostic code, the transmission may shift into the NEUTRAL position.

  1. VERIFY THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS PRESENT.

    1. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

    1. Remove connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM and reconnect connectors J1 and J2 to the ECM.

    1. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.

    1. Enter the service mode of the Caterpillar Monitoring System and clear all inactive diagnostic codes.

    1. Operate the machine.

    1. Check whether CID 0590 FMI 12 is present.

Expected Result: The CID 0590 FMI 12 is NOT present.

      Results:

      • OK - The diagnostic code is NOT present. The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection. This could have been a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and then reconnected. STOP.

      • NOT OK - It is unlikely that the engine ECM is faulty. Exit this procedure and perform this CID 0590 FMI 12 again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the engine ECM. See Testing And Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace.". STOP.
