Location of power train components

(1) Steering clutches and brakes

(2) Final drives

(3) Diesel engine

(4) Planetary power shift transmission

(5) Transfer and bevel gears

(6) Main drive shaft

(7) Torque converter

(8) Tracks

Power from diesel engine (3) is sent through torque converter (7), main drive shaft (6), planetary transmission (4), transfer and bevel gears (5), steering clutches and brakes (1), and final drives (2). Power then goes from the final drives to tracks (8) .

Diesel engine (3) sends power to torque converter (7) which is coupled to the flywheel. Torque converter (7) sends the power to planetary transmission (4) through main drive shaft (6) .

Planetary transmission (4) has three FORWARD and three REVERSE speeds. The speed and direction of the planetary transmission are manually controlled by the operator. Power goes through the transmission and to transfer and bevel gears (5).

Transfer and bevel gears (5) turn two inner axle shafts that send the power to steering clutches and brakes (1).

Steering clutches turn the machine. The brakes stop the machine and work with the steering clutches in turning the machine. The steering clutches and the brakes are manually controlled by the operator.

Power from the steering clutches and brakes is used to turn two sun gear shafts that turn final drives (2). The final drives are modular single reduction planetary gear sets that send the power to the sprockets.

The sprockets drive tracks (8) that move the machine.
