Transmission and Extension Housing - Separate

Start By:

  1. Remove the transmission and the extension housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission and Extension Housing - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Note: The bolts that connect the extension housing and the transmission are not all the same length or same diameter. Mark the bolts for proper placement during installation.

  1. Remove eight lower bolts (1) from the transmission to the extension housing.

  2. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device. Place transmission (3) and extension housing (2) on blocks, as shown.

    Note: Illustration (A) has the bolt pattern for the following serial number range: (S/N: 8DN850-UP) (S/N: 7DM850-UP) (S/N: 1DR1700-UP). Illustration (B) has the bolt pattern for the following serial number range: (S/N: 8DN1-849) (S/N: 7DM1-849) (S/N: 1DR1-1699).

  3. Remove drive shaft (5) and two couplings (4) from extension housing (2).

  4. Remove four bolts (8) from bearing retainer (6). Remove PTO shaft (7) with bearing retainer (6).

  5. Use Tooling (B) and remove retaining ring (9) from bearing retainer (6). Tap bearing retainer (6) off PTO shaft (7).

  6. Use Tooling (C) and remove snap ring (10) from each side of bearing (11). Press bearing (11) off PTO shaft (7).

  7. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device on extension housing (2), as shown. Mark the sixteen remaining bolts (12) that connect the transmission to the extension housing for installation purposes. Remove bolts (12).

  8. Separate extension housing (2) from transmission (3). The weight of the extension housing is 245 kg (540 lb).

  9. Remove the old sealer from the transmission face and the face of the extension housing .
