NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.

  3. Install Tooling (A) to hydraulic caliper service brake (1). Secure Tool (B) (not shown) to Tooling (A).

  4. Put hydraulic caliper service brake (1) in position on plate (4). Install eight bolts (3) and the washers. The weight of hydraulic caliper service brake (1) is 80 kg (176 lb).

  5. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 750 ± 80 N·m (553.2 ± 59.0 lb ft). Remove Tooling (A) and (B) from hydraulic caliper service brake (1).

  7. Measure the distance between two pins (6) and the disc with a feeler gauge. The distance must be 1.5 ± 0.5 mm (0.06 ± 0.02 inch). Move two pins (6) in order to obtain the correct clearance. Tighten two bolts (5) to a torque of 47.6 ± 4.1 N·m (35.11 ± 3.02 lb ft).

  8. Repeat Step 7 for the remaining two pins and the two bolts that are located on the bottom of the hydraulic caliper service brake.

  9. Remove the air from the brake system. Refer to Air System and Brakes System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, SENR1555, "Brake Air System - Purge".

End By:

  1. Install the tires and rims (front). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tires and Rims (Front) - Remove and Install".
