Revised Torque Values For Front Strut Mounting Nuts

Usage:

OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS797 (5YW1-212) OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS

Problem:

The torque values of the 16 8T-1583 Nuts (M30X3.50 THD) and the 24 8C-4032 Nuts (M36X4 THD) that are used in the 149-3119 Front Suspension Mounting Group have been revised.

Solution:

Illustration 1.

The nuts will need to be torqued to the revised values. To properly torque the nuts to the new value, each nut will need to be loosened and then re-torqued one at a time. Spotfaces must be free from paint. Also, it will be necessary to lubricate the threads of the bolts and the nuts as well as the washer faces with 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound. The nuts should be torqued as follows:

16 nuts (1) should be torqued to 800 ± 80 N·m (590 ± 60 lb ft) and turned an additional 120° ± 5°.
24 nuts (3) should be torqued to 1000 ± 100 N·m (738 ± 74 lb ft) and turned an additional 120° ± 5°.

Also, inspect key (2) for damage and replace if necessary.
