Procedure To Reduce Contamination Of Telehandler Hydraulic Tanks Caterpillar

Problem:

Reports of heavily contaminated hydraulic systems have been received. This contamination usually consists of very high silicon and large particle counts. The source of this contamination has been traced to leaks around the 8I-3294 Hydraulic Tank Cover.

Solution:

1. Remove the cab floor mat and the 8I-5350 Floor Plate to access the 8I-3294 Hydraulic Tank Cover. Thoroughly clean the area around the hydraulic tank cover prior to removing it.

2. Discard the old 8I-5594 Gasket and remove any remaining material from the tank top and cover.

3. Apply a bead of 8T-9022 RTV Sealant around the outside of the bolt holes in the hydraulic tank cover. Install the new 8I-5594 gasket. Apply another bead of 8T-9022 RTV Sealant to the bottom of the tank cover around the outside holes. Install the tank cover and torque the bolts to 28 ± 7 N·m (20 ± 5 lb ft). Replace the floor plate and cab floor mat.

4. Drain and completely flush the system. Refill the hydraulic Tank. Change the hydraulic filter.
