This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS53408" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE:

The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM

The existing aftertreatment fan may log a E1190 on certain 120M2, 140M2, 140M3, 160M2, 160M3, 12M2, 12M3, 14M3, 16M3, and 18M3 Motor Graders. If the existing aftertreatment fan fails, it may cause the aftertreatment components to overheat.

Rework Procedure


Group Number 1  
 
Refer to the "Aftertreatment fan ? Test" in the trouble shooting guide for further details or any questions before performing this program.

Note: Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section".

Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.

NOTE: Ensure that the ambient temperature around the aftertreatment fan is below 100 degrees Celsius.

NOTE: Tier 4i engines do NOT have an update for software at this time. There will not be an engine software update at this time.

Check for Fault Codes:

1. Turn the key switch to the ON position.

2. Connect to Cat ET.

3. Record the fault codes.

- If an E1190 (3) in NOT present, this Service Letter does not apply.

- If an E1190 (3) is present, save the Product Status Report with the logged. Then, clear the code and continue to the next step. Save a Product Status report.


Inspection of the Fan:

1. Inspect the fan for the following conditions:

- Damaged fan blades
- Debris against the fan blades
- Air flow is obstructed

NOTE: If any of the following conditions were found, this Service Letter does not apply.

NOTE: If nothing was found and the fan spins freely, continue to next step.

If any of the following conditions are found, this Service Letter will not apply.

Perform an "ARD Ignition Test":

1. Turn the key switch to the ON position.

2. Connect to Cat ET.

3. Use Cat ET to perform the "ARD Ignition Test".

4. Visually inspect the aftertreatment fan after the first 30 seconds to see if it is operational.

- If the fan is not properly running at the correct speed, the E1190 (3) will be logged again. Proceed to Step 5.

- If the E1190 (3) is NOT logged, the aftertreatment fan is running properly. DO NOT replace the fan.

5. If the E1190 (3) is logged again, replace the aftertreatment fan. Save a Product Status Report.
