PROBLEM
The existing 437-7162 Piston Ring can have issues with break in under low load factor operation in certain applications on certain 12M 3, 140M 3, and 160M 3 Motor Graders. If the existing piston ring does not break in properly it will cause excessive oil consumption. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Upon complaint of an oil consumption issue please follow the instructions provided in Warranty Bulletin 3.18 (Excessive Engine Oil Consumption) to document the issue. Have the Technical Communicator submit a DSN - Product Health Service Request (SR) with the oil consumption results attached in the SR. In the problem description section, the question should be entered as "In reference to excessive oil consumption, does this meet the service letter requirements-". The request detail section should include a note to send the ticket to the Engine Tier 2 for approval. Upon completion of the required documentation the approval will be given to complete this service letter using the new 467-1177 Piston Ring. A DSN must be submitted with approval from the Tier 2 to rebuild the engine and submit the claim for this service letter. Refer to UENR0130 Engine Disassembly and assemble manual for instructions on the overhaul. |
