4. Please check the parts required very carefully for each machine. Some machines may require a software update to go along with the Telematics upgrade. If the software is not updated as well, then the claim may be rejected. Research the machine prefix in SIS and take a look at all associated service magazines and service letters that have been published. Note: For original 700 series AT machines reference the section 'Wiring to a 12 position product link connector' in the special instruction REHS8850 and REHS9111. For B & C series AT machines reference the section 'Wiring to a 70 position product link connector' in the special instruction REHS8850 and REHS9111 and replace the existing Secondary Service Port with the Ethernet Service Port supplied with the new harness. 5. Search the machine serial number in SIS and download all of the ECM flash files. Note: These ECM flash files can be downloaded individually or as a single package in SIS. Cat ET version 2013B or later is required to use the flash file package feature in WinFlash. Note: When installing a PL241 the firmware should be updated remotely through cellular communication (Flash Over The Air - FOTA). Create a System Technology Service Request and submit to Caterpillar to perform an over the air firmware update. At the machine: 6. Perform installation instructions (see Image 2.1.1 above) for the 2G-3G upgrade from a legacy Product link device to a 3G radio system. Carefully check the required parts listed under each group. Some machines have a recommended bracket for mounting the radio. These brackets are not required, but are recommended. 7. Download appropriate configuration file for your machine model, as shown in the table above. 8. Make sure to follow the entire process until the device performs a successful communication check. 9. If the device is not communicating, refer to UENR6983 to troubleshoot a PL241, refer to UENR5823 to troubleshoot a PLE641, and refer to UENR5824 to troubleshoot a PL641. Please complete a successful communication check before leaving the machine. 10. After the installation is complete, connect up to the machine using Cat ET, and take a Product Status Report (PSR). 11. After the PSR is finished, save an ECM replacement file for every single ECM. Go to Service -> Copy Configuration -> ECM replacement. Select Load from ECM for each ECM, and save each configuration to a secure location. 12. After all of the ECM replacement files have been saved, apply the flash files to the individual Product Link, engine, transmission, machine, implement, and monitor ECM's as needed using Winflash. Note: Cat ET version 2013B or later is required to use the flash file package feature in WinFlash. . |

13. Once the flash process is completed, reprogram the ECMs with the previously saved ECM replacement files. Go back to Service -> Copy Configuration -> ECM Replacement, and load each ECM replacement file separately. Then select the Program ECM option at the bottom left and apply the configuration to the correct ECM. 14. Once the installation is completed please send all required documents to your PL Technical Communicator and make sure the Radio MAC address is among that documentation. 15. Contact your local PL administrator to deactivate the current legacy device by canceling the subscription from the VisionLink store. 16. Wait one hour after the subscription is canceled and machine history is canceled. The PL Administrator must then subscribe their new Telematics device. Log into the Dealer Service Portal and validate the equipment serial number and ownership in the Equipment Data System. Locate the equipment by the machine Serial Number. Confirm the customer, equipment data, and desired subscription level. Additional information and training can be located at www.dealer.cat.com/pl Note: The wait time may vary during different times of the day. Note: To have your software updated on PL241, create a System Technology Service Request and submit to Caterpillar. State that you would like to have the software on your PL241 updated, along with acknowledgment of customer consent. The DSN Tier 2 analysts will have the software on your radio updated. Please put FOTA in the Problem Description to help expedite the process. |
