NOTE:

This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI10949" as the Part Number and "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code.
Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI10949" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

PROBLEM

The 26 inch or 28 inch Michelin tires may have been over-inflated from the factory on certain F-series Backhoe Loaders. Incorrect tire pressure data is also printed in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Over-inflated tire's are more suspectable to damage if the machine is driven over rough terrain. Failure of a tire may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or death.

PARTS NEEDED

No parts needed for this program

ACTION REQUIRED

Group 1 and Group 2 require the same Inpsection Procedure.

The rear tires on the machine (and front if the machine is a 434F or 444F) need to be inspected for damage. Refer to the Inspection Procedure below. The tire pressure must be reduced to the correct figure (46 PSI, 3.2 bar).

Replace the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Ensure that the customer is supplied with the correct tire inflation information.

Tires affected by this problem:
Michelin 480/80R26 XMCL
Michelin 440/80R28 XMCL
Michelin 480/80-26CL
Michelin 440/80-28CL

Tire Inspection Procedure:

1. Park the machine in a safe area away from site traffic.

2. Inspect both the inside and the outside of the tire sidewalls between the tread and the rim of the wheel for any abnormal raised bumps or bulges. If a raised bulge is found, for example, in Image1 on the inside of the tire side wall or Image2 on the outside of the tire side wall, then pictures of the deformation should be taken and then the pressure in that tire reduced to 0 PSI to avoid any rapid deflation caused by the found damage.

3. If the tires do not show any signs of damage, inflate/deflate the tire to the correct pressure (46 PSI/3.2 BAR).

4. Ensure that a new Operation and Maintenance Manual is with the machine. The new Operation and Maintenance Manual contains the correct tire pressures for future reference.

Note: Damaged tires will need to be replaced. DO NOT replace any tires without prior authorization from the Backhoe Loader Product Support Team. Please send details of the machine including pictures of the damage to Steve Bishop on 0044 1455 826 620 (email: Bishop_Steve_J@Cat.com) or Steve Higgins on 00 44 1455 826 638 (email: Higgins_Steve_P@Cat.com).

If we conclude that the damage was caused due to over-inflation we will then give approval for the tire to be replaced.

Tire replacement contributions from Caterpillar will depend on the amount of wear that has already taken place. This calculation can be found in the Service Claim Allowance section.

New tire lug heights as follows:

Michelin 480/80R26 XMCL = 36mm
Michelin 440/80R28 XMCL = 36mm
Michelin 480/80-26CL = 28mm
Michelin 440/80-28CL = 29mm

The new Operation and Maintenance Manual should be ordered via the Caterpillar Media Ordering System:

https://oos.midlandcorp.com/CAT/

For reference, the English Operation and Maintenance Manual media number is SEBU8717, revision 06 or higher.

Order the Operation and Maintenance Manual in the language required by your customer.
