Description of Change: A procedure to tighten the bolts and shim the axle has been established for the rear drive axle on the machines listed. The procedure will ensure that the axle is aligned correctly with the machine frame and reduce the chance of the mounting bolts loosening.

Adaptable To: 3WM1-Up, 4KM1-Up, 3ZL1-Up, 5AL1-Up, 3BL1-Up, 4HL1-Up, 1YJ1-Up, 5AJ1-Up, 8XF1-Up, 7GG1-UP, 8PK1-Up, 8YJ1-Up, 1EL1-Up, 5ZN1-Up, 9RN1-Up, 3XN1-Up, 3YN1-Up, 2WN1-Up, 2XN1-Up, 5KN1-Up, 5JN1-Up, 4KN1-Up, 4LN1-Up, 6LN1-Up, 7NN1-up, 7MN1-Up.

Tightening Procedure:

Illustration 1.
Bolt tightening sequence.

1. Tighten the (4) 3/4 inch bolts to 275 N·m (200 lb ft). Tighten the (2) 5/8 inch bolts to 240 N·m (175 lb ft) on one side of the axle.

2. Retighten the (4) 3/4 inch bolts to 430 N·m (320 lb ft). Check the 5/8 inch bolts for the 240 N·m (175 lb ft) torque specification. Use the same sequence shown in Illustration 1.

Illustration 2.
Measure gap (C) between axle and frame.

3. After tightening one side of the axle, check gap (C) between the axle and the frame on the opposite side.

4. If the gap is greater than 1.5 mm (.06 in), use one 1G-8271 Shim. If the gap is greater than 2.5 mm (.10 in) use one 1G-8271 Shim on each side of the machine.

5. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 on the side of the axle where the shims were added.

6. Repeat Step 2 on both sides of machine until all bolts have reached the appropriate torque.

NOTE: If shims were placed on both sides of the machine, repeat Steps 1 and 2 on both sides.
