Reference: Special Instruction SEHS9369-01 Installation of 5M-6214 Orifice Plug in Transmission Hydraulic Gear Pump, October, 1999.
The transmission oil pump body contains an air bleed orifice to allow internal draining to assist in pump priming during start-up. The internal air bleed orifice eliminates the need for an external air bleed hose. Some machines will have the external air bleed hose and the internal bleed orifice must be plugged. Refer to the Special Instruction listed.
The 6Y-6712 and 8E-9970 Pump Groups use the 8E-9968 Body with the internal air bleed orifice. The 8E-9968 Body Assembly replaced the 6Y-4999 Body Assembly used in the earlier transmission oil pumps.
NOTE: Inspect the air bleed orifice to ensure it is open and free of debris during transmission oil pump rebuilds. The transmission could be very sluggish immediately after start-up and act normal after operating for a period of time if the orifice becomes plugged.
