Description of Change: The following is a new preheater inspection procedure that needs to be added to the Service Manual Modules SEBU7196, Operation and Maintenance Manual, 550 Wheel Harvester, 570 Wheel Harvester, and 580 Wheel Harvester, and SEBU7197, Operation and Maintenance Manual 554 Forwarder and 574 Forwarder. The procedure should be used on all machines listed.

Procedure:

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:

Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.

Lower the bucket and/or attachments to the ground and engage the parking brake.

Lower the bucket and/or attachments to the ground and engage the parking brake.

Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.

1. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep other personnel away from the machine.

2. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Tilt the harvester head into the HORIZONTAL position. Lower the head to the ground. Lower all other attachments.

3. Install the steering frame lock so that the machine cannot articulate.

4. Engage the parking brake. Place blocks in front of the wheels. Place blocks behind the wheels.

5. Stop the engine by turning the engine start switch key to the OFF position and remove the key.

Procedure For The 487, 495, 687, And 695 Tree Harvesters; 550, 570, And 580 Wheel Harvesters:

(1) Preheater Exhaust Port.

1. Daily inspect and clean the preheater exhaust port (1).

2. Once a week, lower the 159-3679 Bottom Guard to the ground and clean and inspect the preheater tray. Procedure for 1088XLC, 1088LTC, 554, and 574 Forwarders:

(2) Preheater Exhaust Port.

1. Daily inspect and clean the preheater exhaust port (2).

2. Once a week, lower the 162-2476 Bottom Guard (574 Forwarder) or 159-4554 Bottom Guard (554 Forwarder) to the ground, and clean and inspect the preheater tray.
