The periodic 500-hour cylinder head bolt torque check is no longer necessary on the 3003, 3013, 3014, and 3024 Engines.
This requirement may be deleted from the Preventive Maintenance Schedule. However, the following statement should be included in the engine manual:
"In the event that the cylinder head is removed for service, it will be necessary to re-torque the cylinder head bolts."
Following re-assembly of the cylinder head to the engine block, the engine should be started and run for 30 minutes. Then shutdown the engine and let it cool.
When the engine is cold, loosen one head bolt until there is no load on it, then tighten to the specified torque. Continue with the rest of the head bolts in the approved tightening pattern.
A valve clearance check must be performed following the re-torque procedure.
