2. Select "Service".
3. Select "Configuration" from the drop down menu or press the "Configuration Tool" icon from the toolbar.
4. Highlight the "Transmission Maximum Forward Gear" parameter on the configuration screen.

Pressing "Cancel" to leave the dialog box without making changes will return you to the configuration screen with the original value displayed for the maximum gear.
9. The steps for setting the "Transmission Maximum Reverse Gear" setting are the same except you must select "Transmission Maximum Reverse Gear" in Step 4.
Adaptable To: Models with serial numbers lower than these may be updated to the programmable maximum transmission gear by adding the 160-0227 Power Train Software. The software can be ordered through the parts distribution system or can be ordered through the corporate mailbox system. The 160-1758 Unprogrammed Electronic Control Module is also available and can be flashed with the software using Electronic Technician.
There are two methods to determine if the electronic control module is flashable. The first method is by checking the part number on the electronic control module. The part numbers 121-9497 and 130-7557 are not flashable. The second method is by using Electronic Technician to check the serial number of the electronic control module. The end of the serial number contains a two-letter suffix such as "BC". If this suffix is "DA" or "DB", then it is not flashable. All other suffixes can be flashed. The following conditions must be met before a flash software file can be loaded. The key start switch must be in the ON position and the engine must be off. The transmission shifter must also be in the NEUTRAL position.
