Rear Window Latch Improved {7310}

Usage:

Challenger 65E (6GS),
Challenger 75E (6HS),
Challenger 85E (6JS),
Challenger 95E (6KS) Agricultural Tractors

Description of Change: An improved window latch is now available. The latch has a different ramp to allow more positive engagement, and should prevent unexpected window opening.

Adaptable To: The new design was effective with Challenger 65E (6GS0460), Challenger 75E (6HS0447), Challenger 85E (6JS0469), and Challenger 95E (6KS0594) Agricultural Tractors. The improved latch may be retrofitted to earlier E-Series Challenger Tractors by using the installation procedure that follows.

Installation Procedure

1. Make sure the cab rear window is closed and latched. Mark the location of the window latch pawl as it contacts the inside surface of the rear cab structure.

2. Open the rear window. Position the 172-4174 Bar (striker) on top of the rear channel against the inside surface of the rear cab sheet metal structure. The bar should be oriented with the tapped holes facing forward and the "ramp" forward and to the right (machine). The hole adjacent to the ramp should be aligned with the previously marked pawl position. The top of the bar should be flush with the top of the cab window lip. The sealant filler between the top of the channel and rear cab sheet metal may need to be carefully removed to allow the bar to be properly positioned. Mark the three hole locations on the cab structure. See Illustrations 1 and 2.

3. Using the bar, transfer the hole locations to the rear of the cab sheet metal structure. Remove the bar.

4. Drill a 4.8 mm (.189 in) hole at each of the three locations.

5. Reposition the bar inside the cab. Attach the bar using three 6V-1232 Screws (hex socket head) 2.4 mm (.09 in) through the drilled holes.

6. Loosen the two jam nuts on either side of the latch pawl. Reposition the pawl and nuts as close to the latch handle as possible. Tighten the jam nuts.

7. Close window to check for proper latch operation.

8. Paint the installed bar and screw heads, as required.
