Reference: Service Manual Module, SENR9167; Transmission Electronic Control For Countershaft Transmissions. This module is part of Service Manuals SENR9175, SENR9170, and SENR9180.

Autoshift transmission is now available on specified H-Series motor graders equipped with countershaft transmissions. Autoshift features include various modes of operation. For manual mode, the transmission is shifted by the operator using the shift cane. For automatic mode, the transmission shifts gear to gear based on engine speed shift points (upshifts and downshifts, forward and reverse). The maximum gear is limited by the shift cane position selected by the operator. The operator can hold current operating gear simply by moving the autoshift mode switch to the off position. Automatic operation is resumed by moving the autoshift mode switch to the on position. Autoshift starts and stops in 3rd gear and works both for forward and reverse directions. An indicator lamp indicating engagement is located on the instrument panel. The two position switch is located on the shift console.

The new autoshift feature is available as a factory installed attachment and may be adapted to machines which are not configured with autoshift. Use the following charts and procedures to adapt machines not originally configured with autoshift.

Instructions For Adapting The ECM 132-2148 Control Group

1. Park machine and turn disconnect switch to the OFF position.

2. At right underside of operator platform, remove the 132-2148 Control Group. Disconnect harnesses at control group. Remove (4) mounting screws and remove control group from platform.

3. Install the 152-2902 Control Group. Tighten (4) mounting screws to torque of 19-31 N·m (14-23 lb ft). Connect harnesses to the new control group.

4. Inside the cab at the shift console, remove the 3E-0109 Plug located in the left most slot of the panel. Install the new switch, lamp, and rocker actuator in the open slot.

5. Remove the 8X-3798 Gate and 8X-2899 Cover from the 8W-5595 Transmission Control Group. Connect the new switch to the existing wiring harness plug which consists of 977 YL, 601 GR, 200 BL, 202 BL and is located inside the shift console.

6. Install the shift console cover and gate.

7. Using ET or ECAP, enter the appropriate transmission configuration code for autoshift.

NOTE: A different code may be required for machines equipped with VHP. Reference the above table for the transmission configuration code.

8. Turn disconnect switch to the ON position and test the autoshift operating modes as outlined in the "Description of Operation" section of the service manual.

Instructions For Adapting The ECM 143-9634 Control Group

1. Park machine and turn disconnect switch to the OFF position.

2. At the inside of the cab, under the operator seat, remove 106-5840 Cover to gain access to the ECM.

3. Remove the 143-9634 Control Group (ECM). This is part of the 112-5961 Shift Console Wiring Group. Disconnect harnesses from ECM.

4. Install the 152-2899 Control Group (1) and connect harnesses to ECM. Install the cover.

5. Inside the cab at the shift console, remove the 3E-0109 Plug located at left most slot of panel. Install the new switch, lamp, and rocker actuator (2) in the open slot.

6. Remove the 8X-3798 Gate and 8X-2899 Cover from the 8W-5595 Transmission Control Group.

7. Splice 169 PK in the 150-6588 Wire Assembly (9) to 169 PK in transmission console switch harness using (1) 8S-4626 Splice. Route the wire assembly along existing switch console harness. Install the terminal on the 150-6588 Wire Assembly (9) into position 5 on the transmission console switch harness plug with 977 YL, 601 GY, 200 BK, 202 BK wires (Illustration 1).
