Dust cups are now available for the wheel loaders, compactors and wheel tractors listed in the chart.
Drive shaft spline lubrication
To prevent damage to the dust cups, the drive shaft spline joint should be lubricated every 250 hours, using 2S-3230 Cat Special Purpose Grease (SPG).
The machine must be fully articulated when applying the grease. Overfilling of the grease cavity may result from not having the machine fully articulated.
This overfill will lead to a build up of hydraulic pressure in the driveshaft when the machine is articulated. The driveshaft relief valve cannot compensate for this condition, and hence the dust cap is often forced out of place.
Dust cup installation
Dust cups are installed by pressing them into place. Although welding is not a preferred method, it may be necessary if the end yoke bore was sufficiently damaged at failure.
NOTE: Use care if welding on the driveshaft, as excessive heat may cause deformations in the part, which could reduce its useful life.
Install a new relief fitting when replacing the dust cup.
