A new 7C-6697 Service Repair Camshaft Idler Gear Shaft is available as a repair option for cylinder blocks with damaged pilot bores. The service repair shaft has a longer [11.0 mm (.43 in) versus 8.42 mm (.331 in)] shaft pilot. If the original 4N-0345, 7C-6357, or 6I-0093 Camshaft Idler Gear Shaft elongates or distorts the pilot bore, the longer pilot length of the service repair shaft should engage the undamaged portion of the pilot bore. This should allow repair of a damaged cylinder block without replacing the complete cylinder block in most cases.
NOTE: A service repair camshaft idler gear shaft should ONLY be used when the pilot bore in the cylinder block is damaged enough that the original shaft cannot be used.
