Description of Change:
As announced in the Reference Article, 3508, 3512 and 3516 Machine Engines are equipped with a new cylinder liner that has a wider top flange. The Reference Article lists the effectivity of the new cylinder liner.
The former 8N-6861 Cylinder Liner (narrow top flange) was canceled and replaced by the new 110-6993 Cylinder Liner (wider top flange). The former cylinder liner has been re-released as the 123-8206 Cylinder Liner (narrow top flange) for parts service only.
In some applications, engine blocks could not be removed to be machined for replacing just one liner. These situations resulted in the re-release of the "narrow flange" liner.
Adaptable To: The new 123-8206 Cylinder Liner (narrow top flange) can be used with all versions of spacer plate, spacer plate gaskets and cylinder head gaskets. Use the following information as a guide to the usage of the 123-8206 Cylinder Liner (narrow top flange):
1. If the engine has the wide flange liner, use only the wide flange liner in all repairs, single cylinder or overhaul.
2. If the engine has the narrow flange liner, proceed as follows:
-
- a. Machine engines must use the wide flange liner at overhaul to help prevent cylinder block top deck cracking.
- b. For all single cylinder repairs, use the wide flange liner whenever possible.
- c. For single cylinder repairs, the following conditions may allow the use of the "narrow flange" liner:
- a. Machine engines must use the wide flange liner at overhaul to help prevent cylinder block top deck cracking.
-
- * The wear step in the top deck of the cylinder block (caused by the liner flange) is greater than 0.013mm (.0005 in), but it is not practical to resurface or install an insert in the top deck of the block.
- * Use only a narrow flange liner on top of a 7E-2866 "Z" insert.
- * If the old spacer plate "must" be reused without enlarging the bore, then the "narrow flange" liner is the only compatible liner.
- * The wear step in the top deck of the cylinder block (caused by the liner flange) is greater than 0.013mm (.0005 in), but it is not practical to resurface or install an insert in the top deck of the block.
