Usage:
CB-434 (3TF),
CB-534 (2EG, 2YF) Vibratory Compactors
Description of Change: The brake assembly in the drum drive motors has an increased number of discs and plates to provide improved torque. In addition to the increased number of plates and discs, the thickness of the friction discs and plates has changed.
Adaptable To: A new 105-5632 Brake Kit is used for service repair of the brake assemblies in the drum drive motors of CB-534 Compactors. The 105-5632 Brake Kit is adaptable to CB-534 (2EG1-Up, 2YF1-Up) Vibratory Compactors.
A new 108-0469 Brake Kit is used for service repair of the FRONT brake assembly in the drum drive motor of CB-434 Vibratory Compactors. A new 108-0446 Brake Kit is used for service repair of the REAR brake assembly in the drum drive motor. The new 108-0469 and 108-0446 Brake Kits are adaptable to CB-434 (3TF1-Up) Vibratory Compactors.
The new brake kits are used to service both the current and former discs and plates in the listed machines.
The procedure to determine brake shim thickness and the installation order for the disks and plates has changed. Use the following procedure along with the illustration and the appropriate Brake Disc And Plate Chart for the designated model and drum drive motor.
Procedure To Determine Shim Pack Thickness
(1) Shim stack. (2) Brake piston. (3) Internal tooth friction disc. (4) Snap ring. (5) Spring washer. (6) External tooth plate.
1. Install discs and plates alternately in brake housing, starting with an internal-toothed friction disk (3). Using this sequence, an external-toothed smooth plate (6) will be assembled on top of the stack.
2. Put brake piston (2) on top of the discs and install snap ring (4). Use a press to compress the brake discs with a force of 60 000 N (13,495 lb).
3. Measure the distance between the top of the piston, where the spring washer seats, and the top of the snap ring. This is dimension (X).
NOTE: When measuring dimension (X), lay a straight edge across from (A) to (B), and measure down to a point on the piston where the spring washer seats.
4. The required thickness of shims is determined by subtracting dimension (C), listed in the charts, from the measured value (X).
5. Remove brake piston (2) and snap ring (4). Place the shims on the top disc, with the thickest shim next to piston (2).
6. Complete the installation of the brake assembly according to Service Manual procedure.
