Installation Instructions For Pump Drive Coupling {3279,3252}

Usage:

PR-450C (7PJ) Cold Planer

Reference: Disassembly And Assembly Module, KENR1602, 3408B Engine Supplement For PR-450C Cold Planer, Pages 9 and 19. Disassembly and Assembly Module, KENR1683, PR-450C Cold Planer Machine Systems, Page 26.

Sections of the reference modules have only disassembly instructions. Specific assembly instructions are needed to ensure correct installation. Use the following instructions when installing the torque coupling on the PR-450C (7PJ) Cold Planer.

Procedure To Install Coupling

1. Apply a light coating of lubricant on the underside of each bolt head before assembling coupling to the sheave or the shaft.

Illustration 1. Coupling Installation (1) 1G-7072 Shaft. (2) 1G-7073 Coupling. (3) 1G-7071 Sheave. (4) 1G-7074 Support. (5) 7X-3843, 121-6533, 121-6535 Shims. (6) 082-3002 Spacer. (A) Axial Bolts. (B) Radial Bolts.

2. Attach coupling (2) to sheave (3) with axial bolts (A) shown in Illustration 1. Tighten bolts to a torque of 204 N·m (150 lb ft). Do not distort coupling lobes when tightening axial bolts. Reference (E) shown Illustration 2 is an example of distortion.

Illustration 2. Coupling Alignment

3. Check dimension C shown in Illustration 2 in four places around the coupling. The measurements at the four locations should be within 0.8 mm (.03 in) of each other. Loosen and re-tighten the bolts if the difference in the measurements is greater than 0.8 mm (.03 in).

4. Position coupling (2) over shaft (1) on engine as shown in Illustration 1. Place shims (5) between support (4) and plate (6) to align coupling (2) with shaft (1). Use the chart to determine the correct thickness shims to use. Tighten support mounting bolts.

NOTE: It may be necessary to enlarge the mounting holes in support (4) to provide adequate clearance for the mounting bolts after installing shims.

5. Attach coupling (2) to shaft (1) with radial bolts (B) as shown in Illustration 1. Bolts should turn freely by hand if coupling is aligned correctly. Tighten radial bolts to a torque of 204 N·m (150 lb ft).

6. Check dimension D in four places around the coupling. Dimension D is the distance between the diameter of the shaft and outer edge of the lobe. The measurement in the four locations should be within ± 0.8 mm (.03 in) of each other.

7. Check dimension F shown in Illustration 2 in four places. Dimension F is the distance between the coupling and the shaft flange. The measurements at the four locations should be within 1.50 mm (.059 in) of each other. Loosen and re-tighten bolts (B) if the measurements are not within the specified amounts.

8. Weld plate (6) in place after coupling is aligned and support is bolted down.

9. Adjust the engine low idle speed to 825 ± 25 rpm after coupling is assembled.
