Usage:
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
2. Drain the oil from the oil cooler.
NOTE: The fuel filter was removed only for better photo illustration.
3. Remove water line (3) from the oil cooler and the elbow on the timing gear cover.
4. Remove water line (1) from the oil cooler and the cylinder block.
5. Remove 10 bolts (2), and remove cover (4) and the core assembly as a unit from the oil cooler support (base).
6. Remove cover (4) from the core assembly.
7. Carefully lift out each side of divider (5); then slide it out from between the plates of the core.
Typical Example
8. Remove six bolts (6) and support (base) (7) from the engine.
9. Remove O-ring seals (8) from the support (base).
10. Remove plug (9), the O-ring seal, the spring and valve from the support (base).
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the engine oil cooler, support (base) and bypass valve.
11. Install O-ring seals (8) in the support (base).
12. Install the O-ring seal on plug (9). Install the valve, spring and plug (9) in the support (base).
13. Put support (base) (7) in position on the engine. Install the six bolts that hold it in place.
14. Install divider (5) between the fifth and sixth plates from the mounting flange on the cover. Be sure the base on the divider is on the side opposite the two mounting on the flange of the cover that are not evenly spaced.
15. Install the gasket and cover on core (4) as shown.
16. Install the gasket with the indexing point toward the rear of the engine and in the up position. Put the oil cooler core and cover (4) on the support (base). Install the bolts that hold it, and tighten them to a torque of 31 ± 4 N·m (23 ± 3 lb.ft.).
17. Install water line (1), and tighten the hose clamps.
18. Install water line (3), and tighten the hose clamps.
19. Check the oil level in the engine. Fill the engine with oil to the correct level if necessary. See the Maintenance Guide.
20. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.
