Usage:
1. Drain the coolant in the cooling system to a level below the water temperature regulator.
2. Disconnect two hose clamps (3), and disconnect hose (2) and tube (1) from the water temperature regulator elbow.
NOTE: The fan drive and air conditioning compressor were removed only for better photo illustration.
3. Remove bolts (4), elbow (5), the water temperature regulator and gasket.
4. Remove gasket (7) and water temperature regulator (6) from elbow (5).
Install Water Temperature Regulator
1. Clean all gasket material and rust from the contact surfaces of the elbow and timing gear cover.
NOTICE |
---|
The engine will overheat if the water temperature regulator is installed wrong. |
2. Install water temperature regulator (1) down in the counterbore of elbow (2) with the vent hole up.
NOTICE |
---|
Make sure the vent hole is open, and do not use liquid gasket material on the gasket. The cylinder head can be damaged if the vent hole is not open. |
3. Put gasket (3) and elbow (2) in position, and install the bolts that hold it.
4. Put the tube (radiator return) and the hose in position on the elbow, and tighten the hose clamps that hold them in place.
5. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.
